Completing native iOS and Android apps for a medical ECG watch

Project goal

Client: an EU medtech manufacturer of an ECG watch. The project is under NDA and we do not name the client.

The manufacturer has an ECG watch and its own cloud for health data. Patients needed apps that pair with the watch, follow each patient's subscription and send measurements to storage in the EU.

Solution

We took over the two native apps and completed them:

• iOS in SwiftUI. Android in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with a multi-module architecture.
• Bluetooth Low Energy pairing with the watch, and firmware updates over the air.
• Measurements enabled by the patient's subscription: ECG, heart rate, SpO2, atrial fibrillation, PPG and step count.
• Upload of measurements to the client's cloud, hosted in the EU.
• Privacy, terms and data-processing screens, account deletion and remote diagnostics.
• An automated release pipeline for both stores.

Results

• Both apps completed: they pair with the watch, update its firmware and send health data to EU storage.
• Legal consents and account deletion built into the apps.
