Smart street lighting on LoRaWAN: 20–40 % energy saving
For Uniot we connected 40 street lights on two streets to a LoRaWAN platform with energy-saving modes and gas and fire sensors. Saving: 20–40 %.
Project goal
Client: Uniot, Kyiv, Ukraine.
Street lighting ran in a static mode. The client wanted energy-saving modes and safety sensors on one network.
Solution
We built the control system and the platform behind it:
- LoRaWAN control of street lights with energy-saving modes, plus gas-leak and fire sensors.
- Installation on site on two streets in Dobropillia: 18 and 22 lights.
- Our UnIoT platform: Kotlin (JHipster), ChirpStack over gRPC, VerneMQ, TimescaleDB, Angular and OpenLayers maps.
- A park in Cherkasy lit in four weeks on off-the-shelf components and connected to the same platform: control, statistics and automation of colours and intensity.
Results
- 40 lights under remote control.
- 20–40 % energy saving compared with static lighting.
- Four weeks from start to a working park installation.
