IoT and Energy Software Development: Devices, Firmware, Cloud and Apps

Electronics, firmware, cloud and mobile apps for connected products and energy systems: GPO Home, Uniot street lighting, a virtual energy meter and RFID tracking.

Devices, firmware, cloud and apps from one team

We design the electronics, write the firmware, build the cloud platform and ship the mobile app. We sell this to others, and we run it ourselves: GPO Home, our own smart-heating platform, has about 900 devices and 300+ customers. Other work in this field includes street lighting in a Ukrainian city, a software energy meter and an Android app for an RFID terminal.

Who we build for

  • Device makers adding connectivity, cloud and an app to a product.
  • Energy and smart-building teams connecting equipment from several vendors.
  • Hardware startups that need electronics, firmware and software from one place.

Work we have shipped

GPO Home: our own smart-heating platform

An ESP32 controller board with OTA updates and NFC Smart Install, a cloud platform, a vendor dashboard, apps built with Kotlin Multiplatform and SwiftUI, electricity prices from Nord Pool and an AI assistant with voice input. About 900 devices and 300+ customers, with the apps in the App Store and Google Play.

Uniot: connected street lighting

For Uniot we connected 40 street lights on two streets to a LoRaWAN platform with energy-saving modes and gas and fire sensors. Saving: 20–40 %. Our team installed the lights on site.

A software energy meter for SolarManager

A Docker adapter reads an unsupported meter over MQTT and presents it to SolarManager as a hardware Shelly EM. Two days, no new meters to buy.

RFID livestock tracking

An Android app for a Chainway C72 RFID terminal: reading animal tags, an offline cache, sync with the API and a map of found animals. Ten days from start. We do not name this client.

A connected medical device is also an IoT product; see PulseV.

What we build

  • Electronics: schematics, boards and prototypes. See electronics development.
  • Firmware for ESP32 and STM microcontrollers, with OTA updates.
  • IoT cloud and dashboards: device management, alerts and APIs. See IoT development.
  • Mobile apps for onboarding, control and notifications. See mobile apps.
  • Protocols: MQTT, BLE, LoRaWAN, NFC, RFID.

Stack, next to where we used it

  • ESP32 + OTA + Nord Pool prices + Kotlin Multiplatform: GPO Home.
  • NFC Smart Install on STM8L: GPO Home.
  • LoRaWAN controllers, gateway and dashboard: Uniot.
  • MQTT + Docker adapter: the virtual energy meter.
  • Chainway C72 SDK + offline cache: RFID tracking.

Who works on this

  • Anatolii Turovskyi (lead electronics and firmware engineer, PhD). Boards and firmware for ESP32 and STM.
  • Petro Gordiievych (founder). MSc in electronics; led the Uniot project and installed the street lights on site.
  • Vasyl Lukinchuk (senior full-stack engineer). Kotlin Multiplatform apps and backends.
  • Serhii Pavliuk (senior front-end and mobile engineer). iOS and Android apps and store review.

How to start

Hardware starts with a paid discovery: what the device does, which parts it needs, what the cloud must hold and what can go wrong. You get an architecture and an estimate. After that, a fixed-scope prototype or a dedicated squad.

Questions we get

Do you design the electronics or only the software?

Both. Our electronics lead designs the boards and writes the firmware.

Can you connect equipment we already have?

Yes. The energy-meter adapter and the Uniot street lights both started from equipment that was not built to be connected.

Do you build devices in volume?

Our own GPO Home devices are in the field in volume. For client products we scope the production step in discovery.

How to start

Three ways in, each with a fixed scope and a fixed price. Pick the one that matches how far along you are.

Discuss a squad

Let's discuss your connected product

Tell us what you are building, connecting or modernizing. Our Core Team will review your idea, current setup or technical challenge and suggest the best next step.

The Core Team is the group of senior engineers you talk to first. When a project needs more people, we bring in other teams and specialists we have worked with before, and we tell you who they are before work starts.
